What Is an HRV and Why Does Your Toronto Home Need One?

A Heat Recovery Ventilator (HRV) continuously exchanges stale indoor air with fresh outdoor air — without losing the heat energy you’ve paid to generate. As modern Toronto homes become better insulated and air-sealed (reducing natural drafts), indoor air quality suffers without mechanical ventilation. An HRV solves this by providing 24/7 fresh air at 70–80% heat recovery efficiency.

🌬️

Constant Fresh Air

Exchanges stale, polluted indoor air for fresh outdoor air — quietly and continuously — without opening windows in winter.

🌡️

70–80% Heat Recovery

Captures heat from exhaust air before expelling it outdoors — delivering fresh air without significant energy loss.

💧

Reduces Humidity

Properly balanced HRV ventilation reduces winter condensation on windows and prevents mold growth in bathrooms and kitchens.

🤧

Reduces Allergens and VOCs

Continuous fresh air exchange dilutes indoor pollutants — VOCs, allergens, CO2, and odours — that accumulate in airtight homes.

HRV Installation Process — Toronto

1

Home Assessment

We assess your home’s size, existing ductwork, and ventilation needs to determine the correct HRV size (CFM rating) and placement.

2

Unit and Duct Design

We design the supply/exhaust duct connections to integrate the HRV with your existing forced-air HVAC system — or install stand-alone ductwork if needed.

3

Professional Installation

Installation typically takes 4–8 hours. We mount the unit, run ductwork, core through exterior walls for fresh air and exhaust ports, and wire controls.

4

Balancing and Testing

We test and balance airflow to Ontario Building Code requirements — ensuring the HRV delivers the required fresh air changes for your home’s square footage.
